I am often presented with the same question, what is Botox and where may I inject

Botox and is it really safe?

 

OnabotulinumatoxinA  is the unabbreviated name for Botox Cosmetic.  Botox cosmetic is a presccription medicine that is injected into muscles particularly those found inbetween the eyes ( glabella ) the lines of the forehead as well as crows feet to temporarily treat moderate to severe frown lines in adults.  Botox Cosmetic is not the same as another botulinum toxin product and there has not been any confirmed serious cases of spread toxin effect when Botox Cosmetic has been used with its recommended dose to treat frown lines.

 

Botox works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles.  This reduces muscle activity that causes those lines to form.  Although Botox relaxes the muscles for approximatley four months sometimes those same indentations have already created furrows therefore, making Botox uable to completely rid you of those indententions without a filler as an aid.  Typically the earlier in adulthood and the more frequently Botox Cosmetic is used, the less frequent and longer lasting it will become.

 

As with anything there are always risks such as eyelid drooping.  Make certain that whomever is performing your injections has a great deal of experience.

 

Dermal fillers.....there are so many out there, which one is best for you?  In my experience I have found Juvederm XC by far the smoothest, most comfortable and longest lasting out in the market today.  Juvederm XC is wonderful for filling in those unwanted parentheses around your mouth as well as those marionette lines that hang down the sides of your lips.  It's also a great lip volumizer.

 

Juvederm is hyaluronic acid which our young healthy bodies has plenty of, but as we age our bodies are depleted of this nutrient and your skin tends to loose structure and volume creating those unwanted facial wrinkles and folds.  Hylacross technology gives Juvederm its unique smoothing gel properties that holds up to 1 year and is FDA approved with only one treatment needed.

 

Juvederm is injected directly into the wrinkle or fold to plump it back out.  The needle is very small and the XC provides lidocaine ( a numbing agent ) to help avoid any discomfort.  Your professional may also add additional lidocaine gel to the area for additional comfort.  The result is immediate and very gratifying.  Typically some bruising my occur, therefore it would be best to refrain from any alcohol, vitamins and asprin preferrably 5 days prior to your injections.
