2020 The Year of the Mask.
Why bother with Skin Care at all if we have to wear a Mask every time we step out the door? I'm hoping that you really aren't even considering that thought. In the 19 years I have been doing Skin Care, I have found that the masks that are necessary to keep us free of germs has reeked havoc on our skin. Instead of the asking, why bother with Skin Care, how about let's not bother with wearing Make-up for now.
As our face is perspiring underneath our masks, our pores are remaining open and trapping all kinds of impurities. In this year of the Mask, I have seen some of my clients who once upon a time had a flawless complexion, to now having more skin problems than ever!
I say we need our monthly facials now more than ever. I say reduce the amount of make-up you wear. I say use your toner more frequently. Hey, its a great time to wear those Eyelash Extensions and it's also a great time to get those small facial procedures like the Plasma Pen for those wrinkles around your mouth taken care of. Hopefully we won't need these Masks forever, So make the most of this time and take the opportunity to make these minor improvements to show off your new 2021 Self.

With all the different Fillers out there, how do you know which one to chose? Here are some ideas what the different types of Fillers can do for you.
Let's start with Botox. Although Botox is not considered a Filler it does correct the lines that occur from the eyes & up to the forehead area. This includes crows feet, the glabella area ( the area between your eyes ) and of course the forehead area. Botox became FDA approved for these areas in the face in 2002. Until recently, Botox was in a category all by itself, it now has taken on some competition with products called Dysport, Myobloc and Xeomin. This procedure is a quick 10 minute that requires no downtime other than keeping your head above your heart for 4 hours. You will see your best results 10-14 days after your injection and should last you anywhere from 3-4 months.
Allergan, is the Manufacturing Company that Disperses Botox & all the Juvederm products now on the market. Juvederm is a Filler that now has many relatives that help fill in all the different areas of your face.
Juvederm XC - The XC stands for lidocaine, which is a numbing ingredient found in the product ( and we all like numbing when it comes to injections ) If you are allergic to lidocaine, be sure to make this know to your injector. Juvederm XC can be used almost universal to your face. It's great for the peri oral folds on the sides of your mouth, it's good for cheeks, its great for lip fullness. It's also nice for those difficult lines in the glabella and forehead area that Botox may not be able to correct ( although it is considered off label to inject those areas ). Juvederm XC lasts approximately 1 year. And the results are immediate. As are all the Fillers listed.
Vollure XC - Is the newest in the Collection of Juvederm Fillers and may be used the same way as Juvederm XC but lasts longer. Approximately 18 months.
Volbella XC - Another in the Collection of Juvederm Fillers is finer in consistency and is best used to fill in Vertical lip lines. Those nasty little lines above and below the lip. It is also a great hydrator when injected directly into the belly of the lip. Volbella, however is not to be considered a lip volumizer. Volbella will last you about 12 months.
Voluma XC - Also in the Collection of the Juvederm Filler family, can be called the liquid Face-lift. This Filler is used in the cheek area to fill and lift ( and of course as with any product, it all depends on how many syringes you are receiving ). This product will give you the apples of your cheeks back and slightly pull the peri-oral folds out. I've also seen it pull the wrinkles beneath your eyes out as well.
( I am a definite fan of this product ). You can expect Voluma to last you approximately 2 years.
With any of these Fillers I have mentioned, My word of advise to you is not to wait for the expiration of the filler to occur before touching up. If your filler is noted to last you 2 years, get a touch up within 1 year. If your filler lasts 1 year make sure to touch up within 6-8 months. It will keep your cost down and your face glorious.

Our hands reveal a lot....Sometimes too much. Constant exposures to environmental aggressors, UV rays, detergents, water and being in constant use makes our hands more vulnerable to thin, wrinkly skin, dryness and age spots. Hands need daily support and rejuvenating treatments, just as the face does. I once had a man say to me that he could always tell a woman's age by the her hands. That always bothered me, since my main focus was always facial rejuvenation. But after some research, I'm on a mission to change that man's mind.
Here are some Do's
Shea Butter.....Alleviates roughness and uneven patches while assisting with collagen production. It is rich in Vitamin A.D and E.
Daisy Flower Extract.....A natural skin lightener to reduce hyperpigmentation (brown spots).
Microdermabrasion.....Is still one of the most popular, non-invasive modalities for rejuvenating the skin, and it works well for the hands.
Lactic Acid & Retinols.....This supports tissue repair from photo-aging and skin deterioration.
Fillers....Such as Radiesse, may also be used to plump the hands for a more youthfull appearance.
Smoking & of course Sun Exposure not only ages your face but your hands as well, find yourself a good SPF, especially when driving.
Follow these tips and see who can guess your age now.!

I found an article that I thought was right on and I'd like to share with my favorite ladies. ............. You probably don't often think about cell turnover that the behind the scenes process determines the luminosity of your skin. The reason skin looks so bright in your teens is that it doesn't have mounds of dead cells on its surface, at that age dead skin cells fall off every 28 days but by adulthood some cells hold on 40, 50, 60, days. Not only does skin look duller from those old cells but slower cell turnover also triggers lost collagen production, which results in a loss of firmness and more wrinkles. Luckily, there's an easy way to turn up your turn over and get your skins glow back and it's called the chemical peel. In the few minutes that the peel appears on your face it unglues the bands connecting dead cells to the surface of your skin so that they can fall away. When the cells come off, your skin senses that it has lost some of its volume and starts to make new skin cells. The loss also sends a signal to fibroblast cells deep in your skin to increase the skins level of hyaluronic acid and begin collagen production which makes skin thicker and less crepy. Now is the perfect time to schedule your Chemical Peel.our post here.

COLLAGEN is a fibrous protein used to connect and support other body tissues. Collagen works with keratin to provide the skin with strength, resilience, firmness and suppleness. The glue that holds the body together.
Collagen contains amino acids such as glycine, proline, hydroxyprolene and arginine and makes up 30% of the proteins within the body.
With age, collagen production slows and the cells structures weaken. Skin gets thinner, hair becomes lifeless, skin sags and wrinkles begin to occur.
Most of us walk, jog, lift weights, or participate in some form of exercise to promote strength, firmness and resilience for our bodies. We also need methods of exercise for muscles, connective tissue, cells and oxygen flow to our face. Facials done on a regular basis using specific hand massage techniques will continue to stimulate and exercise your face to help slow down the depletion of collagen as you age.
Collagen fillers are derived either from human skin or animals. Did you know that you may harvest collagen from your own skin during an operation that involves any type of skin removal? Your surgeon may then process it into liquid form, sterilize and inject. It also may be stored up to 5 years. For more information regarding fillers, please read previous blog written by Lavender on the subject.
Lavender's Lair looks forward to helping you look your very best for the upcoming holidays!
Until next time,
